Let our voices Be Heard
The anthology „Let
Our Voices Be Heard! Christian Lesbians in Europe Telling their
Stories” has just been published. It is a project of the European
Forum of Lesbian and Gay Christian Groups.
The publication is written in English, and contains texts from lesbian
women with Christian background from 26 European countries. The
Norwegian editor Randi O. Solberg has gathered personal life experiences,
poems, prayers, photos and illustrations of 95 lesbian women to
an impressive anthology.
The book gives an insight to the diversity of Christian beliefs
within Europe.
Lesbian women – for instance with protestant, anglican, catholic
or orthodox background get a voice in the book. But also ex- Jehovas
witnesses, ex-Mormons or lesbians that have converted to Islam or
Buddhism tell their stories.
These stories reflect the socio-political contexts and conditions
within the different European countries. In addition, every new
country chapter is started by a short overview about the respective
situation of lesbians and gays in society and churches.
An introducing essay outlines thoughts about a lesbian-feminist
liberation theology and emphasises that and how theology is always
shaped by personal life and faith experiences of particular people.
The book shows how Christian lesbians in Europe live and believe,
with which difficulties they have to struggle, and what is giving
them hope, courage and energy.
It therefore offers an excellent starting point for constructive
discussions about the subject “Homosexuality and the Churches”.
